“The New York Times - 20 Wines Under 20 Dollars: Bottles for all seasons”
“Chianti Colli Senesi is one of the satellite regions around Chianti Classico that together make up the greater Chianti region. This bottle, from Torre Alle Tolfe, is made entirely from organically farmed sangiovese aged in concrete. It is rich and fruity, all held in place with dusty tannins. It would be just right with a skirt steak or pasta with long-simmered, meaty tomato sauce. (Bowler Wine, New York)”
MY KIND OF ITALY
We’ve been lucky so far with the wineries we’ve chosen to visit in meeting some very talented people behind the wines who all have an obvious passion for what they do coupled with a deep understanding of their land. And Mania Castelli, the co-owner and driving force behind La Torre, is no exception.
COLIN HARKNESS ON WINE
There is an air of tranquillity which blends in so well with the surrounding area and the immense history of the building which is gently staggering. With foundations built in the Etruscan period, one cannot help but be impressed.
Bowler Wine
There are documents proving the existence of grapevines here back to at least 1316. As I write this, Torre alle Tolfe is harvesting its 2021 vintage. It is a place steeped in history but also brimming with current creative energy.
