About Us

HARVEST FROM THE PAST TO RESEED INTO THE FUTURE!

The estate covers 100 hectares, including vineyards, olive groves, arable fields, and forests, extending over rolling hills towards Siena and out towards the heart of the Chianti region. The entire property is run as a certified organic farm, producing various wines and premium olive oil, with the arable land producing a variety of organic grains and pulses. The lack of pesticides and other intensive agrochemicals means that the fields and forests are also home to a rich fauna and a remarkable variety of wildflowers. In addition, special corners are dedicated to animals and their farm, a vegetable garden to provide guests with fresh and genuine products and a herbs garden to delight them with local aromas.

History

La Torre alle Tolfe traces its name back to the VIII century when Tolfo dei Gricci, one of Charlemagne’s knights, built a watchtower here for the defence of Siena. The first written records of winemaking on the estate date back to 1316.
The Castelli history on the estate dates to the 1950s when Luigi Castelli and his wife Lunella purchased the villa and surrounding properties and land. The children of their grandchildren, Mania and Giotto, now living on the estate represent the fourth generation to live here.

Slow-down and Recharge

At La Torre alle Tolfe we embrace a slow-paced life while admiring the spectacular views from the Borgo overlooking the majestic Siena and the green hills of the Chianti. We encourage guests and locals to join us for seasonal activities: grape and olive harvest, fungi picking, foraging and olive pruning. We are delighted to host visitors who stay for days, weeks or years in the Borgo accommodations or in the nearby apartments of the Country Residence.
